The details, in plain English

What a CCJ is

A CCJ is a court order to repay money you owe. It's recorded on the Register of Judgments, Orders and Fines and usually stays on your credit file for six years.

'Satisfied' vs 'set aside'

If you pay within a month the CCJ can be removed; pay later and it's marked 'satisfied'. A judgment can sometimes be 'set aside' (cancelled) — for example if you never received the claim.

How CCJs affect credit

Lenders check the public register and your credit file. We help you understand the paperwork involved in getting a CCJ marked satisfied or removed where appropriate.

Acting in time

Some applications have tight deadlines. We help you understand important dates and prepare paperwork promptly.

What to gather

Strong, organised evidence makes everything easier. Where possible, it helps to have:

  • The judgment or claim paperwork
  • Proof of any payments made
  • Your credit report
  • Correspondence with the claimant
  • Evidence relevant to a set-aside application

What we don't do

We help with forms and explanation. We don't give legal advice on the merits of your case.
